This mother travels 700 kilometres every day, and because of this
It is said that there is nothing that mothers cannot do for their children. But that doesn't mean travelling 700 kilometres by plane every day to work and then returning home! Although it may sound unusual, this is what a 42-year-old mother from Malaysia, Rachel Kaur, has made possible. Netizens have already given her the title of 'Supermom'.
Rachel Kaur wakes up at 4 am, gets ready, goes to the airport and boards a plane for her office. Then, at the end of the working day, she returns to her two children by the evening flight, this is her daily routine. She has also been known as a ‘super commuter’ for her extraordinary ability to manage both her work life and family. But a bigger identity than this is that she is a ‘supermom’.
Rachel Kaur is an assistant finance manager at Malaysian airline Air Asia, lives in Penang, but works in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. Initially, she rented a house in Kuala Lumpur for work convenience and returned home on weekends. But being away from her children, she could not concentrate properly on work. Rachel used to have a hard time remembering her children’s daily lives, school activities and small moments. She did not want to miss the beautiful moments of her children growing up. So she took a bold step. She decided to fly to the office every day to be with her family. The cost of flying five days a week must be sky-high. It's not. Rachel said her expenses have actually come down considerably compared to before. She used to spend $474 or 2,106 Malaysian ringgit per month on rent and food in Kuala Lumpur. Now her monthly expenses have come down to $316 or 1,396 ringgit.
While most people complain about the long traffic jams to get to work, Rachel travels 700 kilometres by air every day and she thinks that it is not a hardship for the smiling faces of her children. Maintaining this routine requires not only physical fitness but also immense mental strength. For Rachel, the journey is tiring but worthwhile.
In an interview, Rachel said, "I have two children, one 12 years old and the other 11 years old. They are growing up, so as a mother I need to spend more time with them. I can fly home every day, spend time with them at night, and even help my children with last-minute homework."
Rachel's story has touched the hearts of thousands of working parents who are struggling to find a balance between their careers and family. Rachel has shown that while career and work are important, they are insignificant compared to the love for family. She has proven that it is possible to give equal importance to career and family if you have the will, even if it is difficult. After her story spread on social media and in the press, everyone is amazed by her commitment and sacrifice for her family. She is now an inspiration to every working parent. Rachel has proven that no distance can be a barrier to love if you are determined.
